Dansko Shoes new headquarters is a LEED Gold facility that includes offices, a large retail center, and a conference center that can be used for fashion shows. BLS provided daylighting design, architectural lighting design, vegetation lighting for the living wall, highly specialized lighting controls, and retail lighting. The lighting control system was one of the first and largest Digital Addressable Lighting Interfaces (DALI) installed in the United States at the time. Unique control sequences were written for the living wall to provide the required supplemental light for the vegetation throughout the year working in conjunction with the daylighting. The office space including high-end trimming of the lighting system to maximize energy savings as well as automated daylight dimming, vacancy sensors, and automated shades tied to glare sensors. The light levels in each area were based on employee surveys conducted during the design phase to further maximize employee satisfaction and energy savings.
In addition to the sustainability focus, the lighting system was highly integrated with the architecture to create a beautiful, lively, engaging environment for employees and visitors.
