With a lighting system utilizing energy efficient induction and LED luminaires and smart lighting controls, this retrofit results in an estimated savings of $6109 per year. In addition to using less energy, the lighting system is capable of providing more light to the gym floor than the previous metal halide system, which provided around 75 fc. The retrofit lighting system is capable of providing 100 fc in competition, 80 fc in practice, 50 fc in recreation, and 5 fc for pass settings. The LED and induction lights have expected operational lives of up to 20 years, far exceeding the four year life of the previous metal halide lamps. This results in fewer trips by maintenance crews to replace lamps, and increased cost savings.
